home depot orange paint and fremont fair

This weekend (so far) has been spent painting my "toy" room (the room where I store all my bikes, hiking and climbing gear). The color is pretty dramatic, maybe a little more than I was intending, but it grew on me as I put more of it on. I thought my inspiration for the color was a photo I found in a Pottery Barn catalogue, but I am beginning to think there was a certain fondness for a large home supply center that was lurking in my subconcious. This picture shows the original color, and some of the new color (and some bare drywall that has been like that for 8 years from when I removed a window). The white is the old color, the orange is the new color....

The next picture shows a different part of the room, with everything painted.

When I purchased the paint at my local home center, and the guy helping me openned up the can after shaking it to check the color, he kind of chuckled. I have to admit it is a striking color. I made the joke that it looks a lot like Home Depot's major color and he joked that I should take one of their signs to decorate with.

I like the color, it will be a pick me up during the grey Seattle winters.

Besides painting one of my rooms and prepping another one for painting this coming week, I went to the Fremont Summer Solstice parade. When I am in town, I always take the time to go see this parade. All the entries must follow two rules: (1) no words - which means there is no incentive for corporate sponsorship and (2) the floats must be human powered - which means they are all reasonable size and somewhat chaotic.

This float had a band playing music...

The groups that show up are very random. I am not sure what artistic message this group was trying to get across. It was entertaining. You can't go to the Solstice Parade with the expectation of things making sense.

This group was a little more normal..

This is the most bellydancers I have ever seen all at once...

This was a cool bike. Maybe when I finish my house I will buy a welder and start making weird bikes.
