Curaçao travelogue

Rebecca and I are having a wonderful time in Curaçao, which an island just north of Venezuela. She is working at an aviation conference and I am enjoying the beach and the world heritage site of Williamsted, a Dutch colonial town which has never stopped bustling. I need to find out if they have conferences in locations like this for my field of work. We arrived Sunday morning and will be here until Saturday afternoon. Rebecca has gone snorkeling right off the beach at the hotel and saw about 20 kinds of fish. Most visitors are Dutch, but everyone speaks English and you can pay anywhere with dollars or Dutch guilders.

Here is a view of the beach area at the hotel and a view from our balcony.

Here is me at Williamsted the day I went by myself. The "trade winds" are always blowing, which is good because it is 90 degrees. Luckily I had a hat with a chin strap (but it looks really dorky, so I have no pictures with me wearing it. )

Here are some pictures of the city, including the unusual Queen Emma bridge, that floats on pontoons and slides sideways to get out of the way.

Today I went back with Rebecca. We went to a great maritime museum and had lunch at the restaurant attached to it. Here are photos from us walking around.

Here is a picture inside the maritime museum.

We have been having a great time, but are looking forward to returning to Seattle to see our family.
