hello boulder and sad goodbye

Rebecca and I went to Boulder to visit my friend Derek and Mich last weekend. Boulder is incredible, with lots of bicyclists popping up from every pebble. We flew out Friday morning and stayed through until Monday afternoon. Derek and Mich were gracious host and had a very welcoming home to relax in. I am ready to move to Boulder. And live in the many spare bedrooms they have, maybe they won't even notice.

Friday evening we all rode bicycles into town and ate at a nice burrito restaurant. It was located on Perl street, which is a stretch of fun stores and lots of people milling about. Derek and Mich live close enough to town, that they can zip in on beach cruiser bikes. The really cool thing is that it is a gentle downward slope on the way home, so you can just coast all the way there.

Saturday Derek and Mich tried to kill us. Rebecca and I were visiting from Seattle (i.e. sea level) and Derek and Mich (Ironman competitors) took us on a local hike. The views were fantastic, but my body was not up to the challenge. Here is a picture of Rebecca and I at the top.

Here is a picture of all of us...

Here is a picture looking back up to where we hiked to. The little thumb sticking out is almost at the top of the trail.

On Monday, Derek and Mich drove off to work, while Rebecca and I headed North to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was happy to fill in yet another stamp in my National Park Passport. I might have been to the park in my younger days, but I have not been since graduating from college. There was still snow in the higher elevations, but we were able to take a quick drive to Beaver Lake. Here is a picture of Rebecca and I at the lake. I would love to visit Derek and Mich again, and stay longer and do some hikes in the park. And biking around the city, and eating in the downtown, etc., etc.

On another subject, I have parted company with my Acura. Looking at my original bill of sale, I purchased it 2-25-91 for $13,200 plus tax. I drove it 195,000 miles (on the original clutch!). That means I paid $0.07/mile. That's pretty impresive! Here is the picture I posted on Craigslist to sell it. I received $1350 cash for it. If you subtract that from the purchase price, I paid $0.06/mile!
