more cabinets

Last Sunday I spent most of the day creating the front face for the slider cabinet for the bathroom. I am not a very efficient cabinet maker, I really should keep the day job. There is a better way to do this all, hire someone. But, it was a great day out, the door came out nice and I still have all my fingers.

Here is the picture of the cabinet facing that I built up. It is made out of 8 pieces of wood, 6 to create the frame and 2 flat panels that slide into the frame. The reason the face is just propped up against the wall is that I need to disassemble everything again so I can paint it.

This close up shows the groove I cut in the top and bottom parts of the frame, which the flat panel slides into, and the tongues I create in the vertical pieces that also fit into the groove. There are highbrow, technical cabinet type woodworking terms for these bits, but I am writing this early in the morning and my brain isn't working.

It is Saturday morning as I write this, and outside is another beautiful Seattle summer day developing. Today I am going to try and finish up the other cabinet that I have been working on. This cabinet is just around the corner from the bathroom. Here is the bare shell, and maybe by the end of the day I will have a picture of some progress.

On another subject, here is a great website that I found a couple weeks ago. Checking in daily has been consistently a rewarding experience. I think the author of the website has a great eye for interesting links on the web....
