Trip to Molokai

Rebecca and I were lucky enough to have a 7 day/6 night trip to Honolulu and the island on Molokai last week. There was quite a contrast between our time in the very touristy city of Honolulu and the almost empty island of Molokai. Here is a photo taken on the 3 mile long beach we had almost to ourselves on the west end of Molokai...

An unusual aspect of the condo development we were staying at is that it is next to an abandoned Sheraton hotel complex. It was surreal walking around in the afternoon in a complex of buildings that had been sitting empty for 5 years with Mother Nature slowly reclaiming them. Sometimes it was easy to figure out what the building used to be, a restaurant, or the golf pro shop, other buildings seem to be the hotel rooms. Since there is an active condo community right next to it and miles of emptiness surrounding it, there was no vandalism. One thing this led to is some of the condo buildings were also abandoned like this one. I called it the "haunted condo".

Here are a bunch of other photos that I will add more details about later....

We stayed in Honolulu for two nights at the Sheraton. Rebecca was able to get us an amazing room, the biggest hotel room I have ever seen, for almost free through all the points she earned while traveling to China for Boeing.
